A Beer Up Six Pack for Valentines Lovers and Haters
No holiday seems to be as polarizing and misunderstood as Valentine's day. For both lovers and haters there are certain threads of truth connecting both crowds. First off, it's a holiday smack dab in the middle of the most uneventful, horrible month. February, a month with no sporting events and typically the heart of winter weather, is so awful that they only gave it 28 days. Another commonality is the expectations heaped upon people by the media and society. If you are single then there some stigma at being single. Whereas those not single have the pressure of making this a special holiday during what is usually an inconvenient time. So whether you are in the hater crowd or the cupid crowd we have three beers for your enjoyment. Cheers!
Beers for Valentines Haters
Aleworks Bitter Valentine- Scoring a 93 on BeerAdvocate, this is one of Alework's most popular beers. Clocking in at 9%, this tasty, west coast double IPA brings flavor and punch to the equation. Whatever situation has driven you to pick this one on Valentine's day, will be a distant memory after you throw back a few of these hop monsters.
Left Hand Milk Stout- This beer is a sweet, milk stout available year round. but is a perfect dark beer offering for the doldrums of winter. The ability to get it on Nitro in the bottle, gives it an even better creamy taste. If you are single on Valentine's Day and looking for a change of pace, you cannot go wrong with the Left Hand.
Sierra Nevada's Otra Vez- Maybe you are suffering from a sour disposition? Have you been described as having a salty outlook? This recent addition by Sierra Nevada combines a little of both in the gose style. Better enjoy it fast during the honeymoon period, as it goes down easy, but that is subject to change over time.
Choices for the Cupids
If you are Valentine's Day fan, you are most likely of the female persuasion. While there are countdowns to Christmas, barbeques for the 4th of July and football games for Thanksgiving there is very little festivity surrounding Valentine's day. This is the one day a year where the shoe is on the other foot and women everywhere get to see men faking it, as they put on a brave face. Here are our three beers for the Valentine's lovers.
Epic Brainless Raspberries- There is an old adage that says love is blind, which taken to its logical conclusion must mean that marriage is brainless. Luckily this heavy hitter from Epic sports a sweet, bready and smooth raspberry flavor that hides the 9% ABV.
Southern Tier Crème Brulee Stout- Valentine's day is synonymous with chocolates and decadent desserts. Definitely on the top of most dessert beer lists, this one combines caramel, vanilla and dark chocolate in a package that is too sweet not to share.
Flying Dog's Pearl Necklace Oyster Stout- This beer is the perfect storm of all things romantic. Oysters are universally thought of as an aphrodisiac, and jewelry is on every girl's wish list. For a treat this Valentine's you can share a pearl necklace with your loved one. With chocolate malts and oyster mojo, this beer will help put the lead in your pencil.
