The aroma of Harpoon IPA has a citrusy, floral spice with an undertone of caramel malt. These characteristics are pleasant and well balanced. This IPA pours a clear copper with a sudsy, white head that dissipates rapidly.
The flavor profile features citrusy grapefruit and lemon notes that lead into a floral spice. This is balanced by an underlying bed of malty sweetness that mellows the hop flavors into a mild, bitter finish. The mouthfeel is particularly light and very drinkable.
Great IPAs seem to gravitate toward the water (Dogfish Head 60, Ballast Point Sculpin, Bell’s Two hearted, etc.), and Harpoon IPA is no different. While lacking the hop firepower of the aforementioned IPAs, Harpoon goes for a more balanced take on the style that features classic hop flavors on an approachably light body. Cheers to finishing every trip down memory lane with a beer!
