While James Brown may sing, "It's a Man's World", he was totally wrong when it comes to holidays. Obviously the most egregious example of this is Valentine's day which does nothing more than entrap and incriminate men by its very existence. Next up is Mother's Day in the spring. Another event where men must feign interest in another made for the mall holiday, which is compounded by a change in date every year. At least Valentine's day is predictable. Of course there are other pseudo holidays which further allow men to dig their own graves. First you have the numerous anniversaries that not only are hard to remember but present numerous opportunities to mess up in gift giving. Birthdays, which no self respecting man really would admit to celebrating, are predictable but equally difficult. For all these nuisance holidays, that brings us to the one holiday specifically for men. Father's Day does not apply to all men and is certainly a distant third fiddle to Mother's Day. Typically this is the day where every man asks for peace, quiet and solitude only to be rewarded by crappy gifts and some awkward family time trying to force the importance of this token holiday.
So what does this have to do with beer?
What to Get the Man in Your Life
We all remember Cousin Eddie's glowing endorsement of the jelly of the month club as the gift that keeps on giving, but as a guy what better way to start your month than with a special delivery of sweet, exotic intoxication. I had heard of the Beer of the Month club before but never gave it a lot of thought as an option. Sort of like Skymall on the plane. I can honestly say though that once I received word that I was going to get a shipment, I could not wait for it to arrive. Like a kid on his birthday, I eagerly signed for my package and opened it up to view the goodies.
My first concern was the logistics of shipping beer and glass breakage. Beer of the Month has that covered. The 750 ml bottles came packed in a cardboard protective holder that sandwiches into the packaging to hold and cradle the precious beer during transit. Bubble wrap is added to the box to further ensure its safety.
So if the special father in your life is a beer drinker, check out the beer of the month clubs. There are a variety of beer memberships as well as memberships for cigars, wine and even cheeses. Whatever you pick out for the man in your life is certain to be the best Father's day gift he gets and much more useful than a tie.
